Product Spotlight: Welker Servo Lifters & Slides
July 16, 2013
Welker introduces a new line of electrically actuated slides and lifters that deliver accurate repeatability and huge cost savings. The efficiency of electric systems deliver up to a 90% cost savings over air driven components. Electric actuators eliminate the need for air lines, valves, switches, hoses, air filter/regulators, compressors, and maintenance costs associated with pneumatic systems. The initial investment of electric components is typically recaptured within the first year of operation.
Robust and durable, Welker’s electric slides and lifters utilize servo actuators to drive and position the unit’s load. This enables precise multi-positioning, ideal for multiple models running in the same assembly line or weld gun applications. Synchronized motion can be achieved by locating lifters at opposite ends of an application, allowing full access to the part. Servo actuators are also offered on single and double axis shim positioners, where quick repositioning of components for model change is needed.
Welker continues to expand its innovative product offerings with the introduction of servo actuated slides and lifters, keeping pace with manufacturing trends toward energy efficient, sustainable, and cleaner technologies.Click here for more info.

Product Spotlight: Welker Part Positioner
Apr 15, 2013
The new part positioner is based on the widely used part ejector component with eight years of successful field time in welding fixtures. The cam operated motion of the part ejector is used in reverse and terminates in to a V-block for repeatable positioning. The LST and SST part positioners are used vertically to preload, position and clamp parts from above. They can be used horizontally to deal with tricky down turned flange stampings.
Traditionally, a slide and a clamping device were used to present, position, or pin fixtured parts from above. After cycle, the slide would move the pinning and clamping components to a clearance position to remove the part.
The part positioner provides a part load opportunity in the clearance position and LINEAR approach to the fixtured part. After cycle, it provides a LINEAR motion and a pivoting dump to the clearance position. This is accomplished in a very compact space using half the valves and switches. Using Welker part positioners can increase robot access and reduce tool size and controls logic complexity.
With a standard price tag under $2000, the part positioner can provide substantial savings over traditional overhead locating and clamping constructions.

What lies ahead?
Looking back I am proud to say Welker enjoyed a prosperous 2012. As we now begin to look forward to the upcoming year we need to pause and consider what new obstacles will 2013 bring. One of Welker's challenges will be to implement new forms of technology that will increase efficiency and keep costs low while at the same time remain an industry leader in quality, innovation and reliability. We believe that by investing in our employees and providing them with new skills and tools we will be be able to achieve our goal and continue to provide our customers value.
On a personal note, we say goodbye to Jo Ann Terri, who over her 35 year tenure helped to build this company. Over the years Jo Ann implemented our: Quality Assurance system, developed our website, oversaw our manufacturing operating system, put into place our HR policies just to name a few of her accomplishments. Overall she was a good friend to us all and will miss her. We wish her Godspeed, that is, good health and blessing in the years to come.
We expect 2013 to usher in new challenges and new opportunities. Those who embrace that scenario will find America to still be a wonderful place to live, work, and enjoy our great blessings. Count the Welker team among them.

Celebrating 40 Years!
Oct 15, 2012
On September 1st, Welker celebrated forty years under current ownership. Here's a short message from Welker's President Dale Van Wulfen.
Looking back…the years go by quickly...
Forty years ago the Welker Machinery & Bearing Co. no longer sold machinery, existing as a six person Oilite distributor in a 3500 sq. ft. warehouse adjoining the Welker family's primary business. Our Van Wulfen family business installed plating equipment, but that industry was changing. And so we bought Welker, preserving the company name.
In the first year we dropped a fastener line, to focus on plane bearings. We added the Rulon line of PTFE products. Within a few years we bought our first CNC lathe (at a cost more than double what I paid for my home) to turn cast bronze bearings from continuous cast bars. The tolerances and concentricity far surpassed the sand cast product we replaced. Over time Welker developed gibs, PTFE lined bearings, and various other plane bearing products. CIP bearings are made from material produced by a sister company we formed in Oregon. Aside from Welker's industrial applications, that product has marine and hydroelectric approvals and uses.
Today Welker has six CNC lathes, seven horizontal and five vertical mills generating the components of our broad array of automation products. Our Engineering Department has a well-deserved reputation for innovation, solving complex challenges without Rube Goldberg devices. As president, I am proud of the team we have built at Welker. We are committed to making our customers more productive, with improved quality. For only when you succeed can Welker benefit from our relationship. Thank you for your continued support.
Dale Van Wulfen
Product Spotlight: New Expanding Pin
Oct 15, 2012
When presented with an application challenge from a major Midwest agricultural manufacturer, Welker went right to work to create a solution. The problem: how to accurately and repeatably locate critical parts using gage holes having a +/- 0.25mm tolerance.
The solution: Welker's new expanding pin. The Welker expanding pin has 2 - 4 fingers that expand to center and locate loosely toleranced holes or tubes. The fingers expand between 1 to 3mm depending upon diameter. This enables ease of loading and unloading while providing the desired accuracy for geometry setting of welded assemblies.
